Good device for the money March 9, 2010 Richard D. Peters (Westminster, CO United States) So far this has been a good piece of equipment. The set up was fairly easy (still working on some of the features). The picture is good, but the disk titling is not as easy as you'd like. My Panasonic was much easier to use, fewer buttons to push to get the desired feature loaded. In summary, so far, so good.
Great value for the money March 9, 2010 Gerly Vargas Montoya (Tibás, SJ Costa Rica) I have a 32" Sony Bravia LCD TV and it does not have a built-in digital tuner. That's why I bought this product. It allows me to watch HD programs, I can also record my favorite tv programs with great image quality. If I play a regular DVD video, this product upgrades the video quality to 1080p format. Great value for the money!!!
better March 8, 2010 Bo Gary (Henry County,Tn) Well just like everyone else the remote is bad, small buttons, can't see in the dark etc.Other wise the guide book is very well written and easy to read and set up was some what a problem, but i followed the advise of others who bought this recorder and just make sure you turn off the auto clock set or it will lock up every time.Use the manual set-up.It took 3 times for me to get it right,it kept going back to auto.So it does record great and no problems with timer set.It takes a little time to learn to finilize(you can set this to auto to) then unfinilize and erase, but after a few times this gets better. So for the money Toshiba has done a good job. 4 stars.bad remote 1 star.Happy recording....
It's an OK, budget, digital recorder... March 3, 2010 Neil in NY This one was to replace the same unit that packed up 18 months after purchase. So no, I don't think that this one will give you years of solid service. It seems a pretty basic construction. However it is cheap, and beats any DVR / Tivo subscription - as it pays for itself against one of those options in a few months.
It's a pretty basic unit, definitely has its faults and frustrations, but does record digital signal well. It is also a digital receiver, so if you have an old analogue TV you can use this as the digital converter box between digital and TV.
Maybe get this in the interim, before digital BluRay recorders come down in price.
Failed After 6 Months March 3, 2010 Kit Chen (California) Worked well for 6 months. The HD and Analog Tuners are not integrated, a minor issue. It requires you to move from one to the other. At 6 months the unit completely went bonkers. It attempts to load a DVD for several minutes when none is in the tray. When a DVD is in the tray it does not recognize it is there. Attempted all the suggestions in the manual without any resolution. Tried unplugging the unit over night but still the same problem. Attempted to contact Toshiba via web-site, telephone and e-mail. Telephone numbers given are wrong. Web site does not list service centers as there manual says. Waiting for e-mail reply but not very hopeful for resolution.
